Carrageenan | Why, in what quantity and from what is it obtained?

Carrageenan occurs naturally in the Eucheuma algae (red algae) and belongs to the carbohydrate group - these are also known as hydrocolloids. Carrageenan is used as a thickening agent in the food sector and is classified as non-digestible by the human intestine and excreted. The health effects of carrageenan have been highly controversial in the past. However, this relates to low-molecular carrageenan. In the food industry, however, only high molecular weight carrageenan is used, as it only develops its gelling and thickening properties in this form. We are very pleased to be able to offer vegan softgel capsules and to be able to use this alternative (for capsule stability).
The carrageenan content in our Omega 3 is 37 mg per capsule.
