Toxic tropane alkaloids can occur in buckwheat products. Is the B complex safe?

Tropane alkaloids can occur in arable plants due to contamination with nightshade plants containing tropane alkaloids. This group includes around 200 currently known substances. Scopolamine and atropine have been particularly well researched; even in small doses, these can affect heart rhythm, among other things. This means that they pose an increased risk, especially for infants and people with weak hearts. After a maximum value had already existed in the EU for infant porridge, further maximum levels for the sum of atropine and scopolamine were set for some types of grain and herbal teas, which came into force on September 1, 2022. This also includes buckwheat. Our raw material manufacturer tests each batch of buckwheat for some contaminants before processing (even before the new regulation came into force), including tropane alkaloids. Therefore, you can be sure that you had a safe product even before September 1, 2022.
